The Division has only been out for about three whole months, but according to Variety, someone has decided that it’s the perfect setting for a movie handled by Ubisoft’s Motion Pictures division. This’ll be an actual movie planned for theaters, not the short one up on Amazon around the time of the game’s release.
The game, which takes place after a quarantine has been issued over downtown New York due to a smallpox pandemic, is the fastest selling new IP ever and set first day record sales for Ubisoft. It’s gotten mostly positive reviews, and we were one of them. While no writer or director have been attached to the film, Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal will be the film’s lead and, like with Assassin’s Creed star Michael Fassbender, be a producer for the film. No other stars have been revealed at the time, or a release date for the planned film.
