If it feels like we’ve had to wait quite a while to hear more about Final Fantasy VII’s upcoming remake, that’s because we have. But it’s not for lack of a reason, says director Tetsuya Nomura. In a recent interview, Nomura stated that Square Enix has been withholding information a bit about the game because the company is actually working on and prioritizing another very big title at the moment: Kingdom Hearts 3.
According to Nomura, Square Enix looking ahead for suitable timing to release new information about the Final Fantasy VII remake, and as such he’s asked fans to continue waiting just a little while longer. With Kingdom Hearts 3 coming to consoles in January 2019, promotion efforts should shift from that game to Final Fantasy VII Remake, with any luck.
Nomura also acknowledged that there’s been a number of fake news reports swirling around, like the fact that the game could be coming out in 2023, but as far as when the real release date may be? We’re unfortunately still in the dark about that, very much so.
Hopefully, as the months go by and we pass Kingdom Hearts 3 when it’s finally out in the wild, new reports will finally surface about what more we can expect from Final Fantasy VII’s ambitious remake project, but for now it’s probably best to avoid getting your hopes up for anything super significant at the moment. There’s still a lot of things that need to happen before more announcements slip out, apparently.
