If you want to find the latest news on an upcoming video game, visiting a convention is usually a good bet. After all, New York Comic Con participants received an exclusive first look at Devil May Cry 5. But, sometimes a company has to be the bearer of bad news and say there won’t be any, well, news at a convention.
Blizzard’s Diablo franchise is regarded by many to be the be-all and end-all of dungeon crawling loot-a-thons. Even though the series only has three titles to its name, it is still infinitely more popular than its would-be rivals. Still, the latest entry in the franchise, Diablo 3, is still running strong despite being over five years old. Heck, I kind of want to buy the recently announced Gamestop exclusive Diablo III Switch bundle, and normally I stay away from Gamestop.
Even though gamers enjoy tearing through the minions of Hell in Diablo III in their eternal quest for stronger weapons and armor, they are still eagerly awaiting the next entry in the series. Every year, people either visit or tune in to Blizzard’s own convention, BlizzCon, in the hopes of catching the barest whiff of this mythical Diablo IV, but looks like gamers might have to wait another year.
According to a blog post on the official Diablo site, Blizzard wants to take its time with the game. Not only does the studio refuse to rush the game out the door to meet an arbitrary deadline, it doesn’t even want to make any announcements regarding the title just yet. But, that doesn’t mean fans will be left high and dry.
“While we won’t be ready to announce all of our projects, we do intend to share some Diablo-related news with you at the show,” states the announcement. This vague promise could mean anything from a new Season with new rewards for Diablo III to new characters for Heroes of the Storm.
As the post explains, “good things come to those who wait.” We can hope the company is right.
