The official Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel has uploaded a new video offering a behind the scenes look at music in Team Sonic Racing.

The video explores the studio where guitarist Jun Senoue, bassist Takeshi Taneda, and drummer Act are recording the soundtrack for the upcoming game.

An extended look at three of Team Sonic Racing’s new musical compositions are shown being performed.

Along with the musician’s performances, a sneak-peek at the levels that inspired them are shown off as well. The titles for some of the songs also might give away the names for the game’s tracks.

There is Frozen Junkyard, a pure rock n’ roll inspired jam that accompanies a mechanical race track covered in ice. Market Street shows off some of the classic Sonic style level music we have come to expect.

The track that is shown off with this composition has a cobblestone island feel much like the city hub in the original Sonic Adventure.

And finally, Green Light Ride which is clearly the anthem song for the game. A classic rock ballad with lyrics similar to Sonic Heroes or Sonic Adventure 2’s Live and Learn.

This appears to be the first video in a series of videos that will come out. The music in the Sonic the Hedgehog games has always generally been pretty great so it’s really cool for Sega to offer a glimpse at the recording process.

Sonic Team Racing was originally planned for a winter 2018 release. However, it has since been moved to a late spring release. So there’s still a little bit of time to wait before we can hit the speedway with Sonic and friends.

Sonic Team Racing will release on Switch, PC, Xbox One and PS4 on May 21, 2019. You can pre-order the game now.
