The base Superhot game released in early 2016 and the virtual reality version launched in December of the same year, initially as an Oculus exclusive. As the blog post that announced the milestone revealed, “Superhot VRs first platinum took nearly two and a half years. The second one was reached in less than half that time.”

Having come to PlayStation VR and a variety of PC VR headsets since it’s launch, Superhot VR has come a long way and established itself as one of the best and most unique games for the medium.

The developers have released a new trailer to thank the fans and announce reaching double platinum, which you can see below, and a put a post on their website that talks about history of Superhot VR. They said:

“The path that brought us here began with a small game jam experiment nearly 7 years ago. It was long and winding. We’ve seen prototype headsets made from old smartphone parts in a garage. We’ve seen ballooning hype cycles and multi-year troughs of disillusion…

We’ve stayed independent and we’ve grown and expanded enough to safely continue our video game experiments, prototyping, and core development, while also giving back to the industry through SUPERHOT PRESENTS and IndieBI.

It’s a privilege to be on this journey with you. Here’s to the many more wild and winding paths in front of us.”

Alastair Hebson, Director of Other Special Projects at Superhot Team also said, “2020 is shaping up to be our best year yet, sales of Superhot VR are up at least 195% compared to this time last year,” and the statement said that the game “has gone on to be one of the biggest VR titles available on the market” since it launched.

Superhot VR will also be on sale in various places from May 21, so be sure to check the relevant stores once that date comes around.

As we said in our review of the game, “Superhot VR is a unique experience in virtual reality,” and called it “a game that every PlayStation VR owner should pick up.”
