In a surprise update, Super Mario Maker 2 now has the feature of being able to play with your friends online.
To many fans’ outrage, this feature was not included in the base game, but it was promised by Nintendo that it would be coming at a later date. After more than three months of radio silence on when it should be expected, we have gotten the answer. It’s right now.
The official Super Mario Maker 2 website has listed the additional updates as followed;
Added “Play with Friends.”
- You can now play online** with friends in either Multiplayer Versus or Multiplayer Co-op modes.
- You can now select courses uploaded to Course World as well as courses saved to Coursebot.
- The Nintendo Switch Online mobile app is now supported for voice chat.
Added features to “Nearby Play.”
- You can now play in Multiplayer Co-op mode as well as Multiplayer Versus mode*.
- You can now select courses uploaded to Course World as well as courses saved to Coursebot.
- When playing a course saved to Coursebot, the host system doesn’t need to be connected to the internet.
Added the Official Makers list.
- There’s now a list of Official Makers in Leaderboards. Courses made by Nintendo can be found here so please check them out!
Other stuff you may enjoy.
- You can now select Play Together directly from any course uploaded to a player’s profile.
- Maker Profiles have been refreshed with more info such as a user’s total number of First Clears.
- You can now play with a horizontal Joy-Con™ controller in all Game Modes.”
Even though the highlight of this Super Mario Maker 2 update is being able to play online multiplayer and coop with your friends, It’s really cool that there is now a section for courses specifically made by Nintendo.
Version 1.1.0 can now be downloaded and if it hasn’t already been done automatically, just hover over the game icon on the main menu, press the “+” button and select software update.
