As promised, there was a Nintendo Direct earlier today dedicated entirely to Super Mario Maker 2, and it looks glorious.
Over the course of the 15-minute video, the Direct started by giving us a complete news dump of all the new features players can fiddle around with in the game. This includes see-saws, on-off switches, a crap ton of sound effects for all situations, and snake blocks. Those are just the ones I’m listing off the top of my head, and I’m pretty sure I’ve already forgotten a bunch.
In addition to that, local multiplayer is supported as well, where players can each take a Joy-Con to start designing and building levels together.
And of course, Super Mario Maker 2 will also feature online co-operative and versus modes, with support for up to four players. This is a first for the series, and is undoubtedly very exciting news for fans.
And lastly, the game has a story mode that revolves around you trying to rebuild Peach’s destroyed castle. You’ll do this by playing through a variety of levels to earn coins, which can then be put towards rebuilding her castle.

Super Mario Maker 2 is set to be released for the Switch on June 28.
