Stardew Valley isn’t exactly the first game that comes to mind when I think about competitive tournaments in gaming, but hey, it’s happening. And it actually sounds like a pretty fun time.
ConcernedApe, AKA Eric Barone, announced on Twitter that Stardew Valley Cup is a new challenge tournament with a $40,000 prize pool, designed to test players’ skills and knowledge of that game. Instead of being a speedrunning event like one might expect, though, this tournament features various challenges that players can complete for points.
For instance, giving Pam a pale ale or obtaining a trash hat will reward you with points, and whoever accrues the most number of points at the end of the tournament will be crowned the winner. There will also be surprise challenges that pop up along the way, allowing players to rack up more points, so players will not only have to plan out the best route for the game, but also be prepared to make detours if necessary.
The Stardew Valley Cup is set to start on Sept. 4, 9 a.m. Pacifc Time. The game is now available on PC and consoles.
