Despite the recent removal of microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront II following uproar from the video gaming community, publisher EA has stated in a securities briefing that it expects this change will have no impact on the company’s financial outlook.

The full statement from EA reads as follows: “On November 16, 2017, Electronic Arts Inc. (“EA”) announced in a blog on its website at www.ea.com/news that it will turn off all in-game purchases for the Star Wars Battlefront II title until further notice. This change is not expected to have a material impact on EA’s fiscal year 2018 financial guidance.”

Not expecting to have a “material impact” on financials translates to the prediction that the company does not see the removal of microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront II as being significant enough to undercut sales and earnings results surmised by the publisher toward the end of its financial year (March 31, 2018).

Though it’s obvious that the elimination of microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront II removes another stream of potential revenue for the company going forward and that it’s losing sales in that respect, it may be possible that EA’s estimates and sales goals regarding the game did not include microtransactions in the first place. It’s also worth mentioning that the company may think that this recent change is enough to foster goodwill and bolster strong first week sales.

For now it seems as though EA has no qualms about Star Wars Battlefront II’s success in the marketplace. Fans will have to wait and see whether or not the title ends up as profitable as the company thinks it will be.
