Sonic Mania Plus Gets Nostalgic Infomercial to Celebrate Release

Sonic Mania Plus is about to officially drop on July 17, and there’s a new trailer out celebrating its impending release. The video takes you to a nostalgic entertainment/gaming store where you take on the role of a player making a difficult choice. Will you choose the newest first-person shooter Finger GunZ, or Sonic Mania Plus? Both games are shown off on tube TVs, with a salesman singing either game’s praises.

Everything, from the lighting to the commercial itself, is a nod to the gaming store trips of yesteryear, including the salesman itself. Stick around until the end, and you’ll even see a cool surprise with the Sega logo that’ll really get those nostalgia gears grinding.

Sonic Mania Plus is an expanded version of Sonic Mania, and adds playable characters Ray the Flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo. It also features a new Encore Mode with level remixes, a four-player competition mode, additional cutscenes, and a pinball bonus stage. It’s got plenty of fan service and Easter eggs for Sonic diehards, so if that’s you, you may want to consider giving it a try.

Our EIC Ed McGlone reviewed the game, and shared his thoughts:

“If you’re a hardcore fan of the original, Sonic Mania Plus is an easy buy. It adds on neatly onto your original game (no need to start all over), and will extend your playtime at least another few hours if not more. Also, if you missed Sonic Mania last year, this is now the definitive version of the game.”
