Silent Hills “Needs to Happen,” Says Norman Reedus

Silent Hills was canceled earlier this year by Konami despite the fact it had one of the best marketing campaigns of all time with the incredibly scary P.T. (playable teaser) which was released on the PlayStation Store. The game was the creation of famed Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and the equally respected film maker Guillermo del Toro who created such films as Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth. The game would also use the voice and likeness of Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus.

It seemed too good to be true, and in the end it was. Konami pulled the plug on the game shortly after it was heavily speculated that Kojima and the Konami higher-ups weren’t getting along. We were all incredibly disappointed, as were both Del Toro and Reedus.

Del Toro has been very open about how much he was looking forward to creating the game and now, in an interview with IGN, Norman Reedus has expressed his desire for the game to rise again in one form or another and has said how much he would like to work with Kojima and Del Toro.

“I’m super bummed that that happened back in Japan,” Reedus said. “But I have faith. I have faith that we, the three of us, can do something else.”

“There were so many ideas and cool future happenings that were thrown around,” Reedus said. “I just can’t see us not picking this up somewhere.”

Reedus stated that the fan reactions to the P.T. demo and their outcry over the game’s cancellation made him think: “‘Holy balls. It has to happen. You need to do this.'”

“I have faith that we’re going to do something though because it just seems like it was one of those things that needs to happen. It’s like destiny, it needs to happen,” said Reedus.

It’s good to see that both Reedus and Del Toro are still very invested in what they started. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Del Toro said:

“We were hoping to actually create some sort of panic with some of the devices we were talking about and it is really a shame that it’s not happening,” del Toro said. “When you ask about how things operate, that makes no f**king sense at all that that game is not happening. Makes no f**king sense at all.”

Though Silent Hills with Kojima, Del Toro, and Reddus may no longer be happening, Konami has stated that it will continue the Silent Hill franchise in one form or another. There have been a lot of reports that claim Kojima has left Konami but the company insists Kojima is simply on vacation.
