It sounds like SEGA is investigating how to bring Shenmue I & II to current generation hardware.
In the latest video SEGA Central, Dan Sheridan answered fan comments about various subjects, such as E3 plans and Valkryia Chronicles. Commenter TheSkillJim, beginning at 1:55, asked if SEGA was looking into bringing Shenmue I & II to current generation consoles, as a way for gamers to experience the classic entries released so long ago.
Sheridan replied with this response:
“With regards to Shenmue I and II HD, we would love to release these tomorrow. Sadly, its not as simple as porting the games to the current platforms, as we would need to ensure any HD remasters live up to the quality of the original titles. With games as immersive as Shenmue I and II, there are further complications, from licensed products that were included in the original games. That said, we would love to do it, and are currently investigating how to make it a reality. “
There you have it! It sounds like SEGA is serious about bringing Shenmue back into the public conscious. Is this a day one purchase for you? Do you want to dive back into the world of Shenmue again? Let us know in the comments below.
