Almost ten minutes of brand new gameplay for Sea of Thieves was revealed during Microsoft’s E3 2017 conference, showing off some of the predicaments you can get yourself into in this pirate-themed, open-world, co-op adventure.

Some charming narration accompanies the gameplay, as the player battles skeletons, traverses caves, digs up treasure, and sails through a storm all before ending up in the jaws of a Great White. You can check out all the new footage in the trailer below. It’s a pretty decent chunk of gameplay, and it’s clear Microsoft is banking on this new addition to its arsenal being an important part of its games on offer going forward with all the time spent on it.

It turns out that battling sharks will definitely be possible, as well as of course facing other pirates out on the high seas. In an epic move no one could have predicted, you can totally hop aboard enemy ships by launching yourself using a canon. That probably wasn’t something anyone was expecting when they shuffled into the Microsoft conference this evening.

Sea of Thieves is set to release in early 2018 for Xbox One and PC, with focus of the title’s release on Microsoft’s new console, the Xbox One X, being centered around the new 4K gameplay.

Make sure to stick around after the Microsoft conference for a special Sea of Thieves stream on Mixer that’s being hosted directly. There should be a whole new glut of information there, so if you’re looking forward to checking out this game, row, row, row your boat over to Mixer and get your thievin’ on, me hearties.
