Rocket League’s Latest Update Adds Tournaments and “Performance Mode” for Nintendo Switch

The Tournaments update for Rocket League is now live on all platforms, bringing player-created tournaments, chat bans, and more to the game today.

Like the name of the update suggests, players can now create their own tournaments within the game. Tournaments must have a minimum of eight teams and supports a maximum bracket size of 128 teams. Teams must be in a party to register for the new feature, and tournaments can be cross-platform.

The Nintendo Switch version also received two new video settings – Performance Mode and Quality Mode – alongside the ability to capture the last 30 seconds of video in the patch. According to the patch notes, Performance Mode runs the game at 60 FPS with decreased resolution and Quality Mode keeps the framerate at 30 FPS with a resolution of 1080p or 720p, depending on if the console is docked or handheld. The full specifications from the notes:

Performance Mode (60fps)

  • Docked: Optimized for 60fps/900p, can scale down to 60fps/720p
  • Handheld: Optimized for 60fps/720p, can scale down to 60fps/576p

Quality Mode (30fps)

  • Docked: 30fps/1080p
  • Handheld: 30fps/720p
  • Quality Mode also enables several graphics features automatically, including Lens Flares, Light Shafts, Dynamic Shadows and Depth of Field

The Rocket League update also adds chat bans, main menu notifications for chat bans, Spotify integration for the Steam PC version, a less cluttered inventory screen with search function, and more music from record label Monstercat.
