Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed Red Dead Online during the call saying, “it will launch in public beta towards the end of the month – Rockstar will have a lot more to say about it.”

We don’t yet know exactly when the beta or the official launch will take place, but we know to expect some announcement within the next three weeks. This also means that players should have several weeks to enjoy and finish the story mode before the online mode releases.

While we don’t have solid details on what Red Dead Online will entail when it launches, Rockstar describes it as a blend of narrative and gameplay and an evolution of Red Dead Redemption’s online experience. The official description from Red Dead Online’s announcement reads:

“Red Dead Online is an evolution of the classic multiplayer experience in the original Red Dead Redemption, blending narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways. Using the gameplay of the upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 as a foundation, Red Dead Online will be ready to be explored alone or with friends, and will also feature constant updates and adjustments to grow and evolve this experience for all players.”

In an interview with IGN, Rockstar also revealed that Red Dead Online will take place in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 and will use the game’s gameplay mechanics as a “jumping off point.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 has proven to be a colossal success for Rockstar. Recently, Take-Two announced that the game shipped 17 million copies in eight days, already exceeding the lifetime sales of the original game. Before this news, Rockstar revealed that the game broke a record for the second-highest grossing entertainment installment launch ever, with the only title ahead of it being Rockstar’s own Grand Theft Auto V.
