Before there was Banjo-Kazooie, there was Dream: Land of Giants. It was a simple story of a boy and his dog exploring a brand new world. Rare worked on it for years before it became the N64 classic platformer, and today, they’ve decided to tell the story of what almost was.
In the video above, Rare employees go into Dream’s conception, their experience making it, to the change in genre and style, and how it became the Banjo-Kazooie title gamers know and love today. Banjo even almost became a rabbit at one point in development. Because rabbits are awesome.
It’s pretty fascinating and looks kinda cool in and of itself. Is it too late to make this a thing? Hey, if they’re making a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie with that Yooka-Laylee game, maybe people will throw down money to see Dreams become an actual thing.
