Pokemon Go Tour Kanto Announced by Niantic; Features Original 150

In a release to the press, Niantic revealed a massive amount of details about their next major virtual ticketed event in Pokemon GO. This will be the first virtual paid event in the game since GO Fest back in July. But instead of celebrating the game as a whole, Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto will celebrate the first 150 creatures.

On Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 from 9 AM to 9 PM local time, all 150 original Pokemon will be appearing in raids, the wild, research tasks, with incense and more. There will even be a tracker in the Today section on the app that will help you keep an eye on how many Pokemon you’ve obtained.

Collecting all 150 original Pokemon in 12 hours may sound like a harrowing task to perform. Fortunately, you’ll actually have until Feb. 27, 2021 at 11:59 PM PT to collect all 150 ‘mons. And during the 12 hours of the event, Pokemon originally discovered in Kanto will give you extra candy.

Sticking with the theme of Kanto and the first generation, there will be Green Version and Red Version tickets available to purchase in the store. Just like with Pokemon Red and Green, only certain Pokemon will be available based upon which ticket you purchase.

That means you’ll need to trade in order to collect all 150 Pokemon. Thankfully, the extended trading distance feature will be brought back for Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto. Instead of the standard incredibly short trade range, friends located within 40 km will be able to trade Pokemon.

And if you’re a shiny collector then you’ll need those trades since all 150 Pokemon will have their shiny version available. Besides exclusive ‘mons, the ticket you purchase will even increase the likelihood of certain shiny Pokemon appearing in the wild.

Below you can find a table of the version-exclusive Pokemon appearing with each ticket and which shinies will be more common based upon the ticket you purchase. It’s important to note that these version-exclusive Pokemon will be attracted by incense.

Along with all of those shiny Pokemon, you’ll also get to play through the event-exclusive Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto Special Research. Niantic teased that you’ll get an encounter with a “special Pokemon” when you complete it. There are no details on which creature that might be.

After you complete the first Special Research, then a second one will unlock that can be completed at any time. This one will reward the player with a shiny Mew encounter at its conclusion.

Players who purchase a ticket will also have access to moves that were formerly exclusive to Community Day or other events. Venusaur (Frenzy Plant), Charizard (Blast Burn), Blastoise (Hydro Cannon), Articuno (Hurricane), Zapdos (Thunder Shock), Moltres (Sky Attack), and Mewtwo (Psystrike) will all have their event-exclusive attacks when obtained during this event via catching or evolution.

Finally, if you decide to pick up a ticket for Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto by Jan. 13, 2021 at 11:59 PM PT, then you’ll get the January and February Community Day Special Research tickets for free (normally 99 cents each). Purchasing by Feb. 3 at 11:59 PM PT will just net you a free ticket for the February Community Day Special Research.

As of right now, January Community Day is set for Jan. 16, 2021 and the February event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021. Niantic has not yet announced which Pokemon will be featured on these days, but we’ll report on that news as it becomes available.

The tickets for Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto are available now on the in-game shop for $11.99 plus tax. The tickets are nonrefundable, so be certain that you’ll be able to participate before making the purchase. Also, once you pick Red or Green, you won’t be able to change your version.

Just like past virtual events, the tickets are only purchasable with actual money. There will be no PokeCoin option.

All of this is great for those players who don’t mind handing over $11.99 plus tax in order to get access to these goodies. But for the purely free to play trainer, you will not be left out of the party completely.

Even if you don’t purchase a ticket for Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto, you’ll still be able to find tons of the original 150 creatures out in the wild. And you’ll still be able to obtain Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Mewtwo from Legendary raids with their event-exclusive attacks.

On top of that, there will be an event-themed Timed Research that all players will have access to from the start until the end of Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto.

Despite this massive release of information from Niantic, it seems like they’re not done yet. You can check out the official Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto website for updates on the event. And as new details are added there, we’ll be covering it all right here.
