Sony Interactive Entertainment’s tiny retro console PlayStation Classic has received a huge price drop just weeks after it launched.
The PlayStation Classic released on Dec. 3 at its original price of $99.99, but has now been marked down to $59.99 at major retailers only 23 days after its launch. The console with the $40 price cut can be found at participating retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart.
The retro console contained 20 pre-loaded PlayStation games, such as Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7, inside hardware that was 45% smaller than the original PlayStation console. The concept was similar to Nintendo’s NES Classic and SNES Classic released last year, though the two nostalgia-inducing consoles contained more games at a lower price point of $59.99 and $79.99, respectively.
Those seeking the fond memories of the PlayStation will find it is much cheaper to buy the PlayStation Classic than search out an old console and buy all the games individually included with it. Although, it is a basic package with little frills, some performance issues due to ROM choice, and a list of games that may be lacking to one’s preferences but is definitely missing some huge titles from Sony’s seminal console.
