It’s tweaking season once again in the Overwatch PTR, and this time the developers will be working on everyone’s favorite hacker in the game. Sombra has seen a few changes here and there, but it hasn’t done much to improve her overall low pick rate. She’s undoubtedly one of the more difficult heroes to use and doesn’t exactly have the best damage output compared to the other Offense heroes.
Taking to the Overwatch forums, principal designer Geoff Goodman has shared some of the few things they’re working on to balance the hero:
- No longer gains ult from health pack healing
- Weapon Spread decreased by 10%
- Hacking speed increased from 0.8s to 0.65s
- Hacking will disable more abilities. Basically any ability that requires a button press will also be disabled. (eg. Pharah’s Hover Jets and Hanzo’s Wall Climb)
From these notes, they are trying to take out some of the power from her EMP (by removing the charge from health packs) and make the rest of her kit much more useful. Hacking should generally feel a bit more powerful this time around, especially when casting her ultimate. Not to mention that tweaked weapon spread should help Sombra players score more kills.
Only time will tell if these tweaks will be enough for Sombra to finally earn a spot in the Overwatch meta.
