Please have mercy, Blizzard.

Though a lot of fans were worried that Overwatch’s Mercy would get significantly nerfed after today’s update, it appears as though the opposite has happened.

Indeed, today’s changes make Mercy a bit too overpowered, as evidenced by footage from the game’s PTR.

With the support character’s ultimate changed to Valkyrie, Mercy’s weapon now has unlimited ammo plus damage and rate of fire increases for the duration of the boost. This combined with the ability to fly freely make the previously innocuous character a major force to be reckoned with – especially considering how Ana’s ultimate can aid Mercy’s rampage considerably with enhanced mobility.

Seeing as how fans were quick to spot the imbalance, rallying to Overwatch’s official forum to discuss the matter, the game’s principal designer Geoff Goodman responded, admitting that Mercy’s new ultimate is currently a bit too overpowered and that adjustments will be made.

“Her gun while using Valkyrie is a bit too strong at the moment,” Goodman wrote. “The idea is for it to have some extra juice to be able to use it in more niche situations. Right now, it is strong enough that it is feeling like the primary way to use the ultimate, which isn’t intended.”

Of course, as is the case when changes to such a multiplayer-driven game are made, more improvements will be implemented if Blizzard deems them necessary. “There is likely to be a good amount of tuning happening throughout this PTR cycle to iron this kind of stuff out,” the man concluded.

Mercy mains everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief knowing their favorite character is in good hands. As for other heroes in the game, details on Korean mecha-riding warrior D.Va’s new Micro Missiles ability were recently shared.
