Oddworld Inhabitants have sung the praises of the PS4 Pro, and it now seems likely that the upcoming Oddworld: Soulstorm will be released on Sony’s new mid-cycle hardware in 2017.
On the Oddworld Inhabitants community news page, the developer extolls the virtues of the new hardware saying, “PS4 Pro complements our design ethos for Oddworld: Soulstorm, allowing the ability to turn up the dials on visual fidelity, lighting and physically based rendering.
Though the post does conclude by emphasizing that platforms have yet to be announced, it seems likely that a PS4 Pro appearance is on the cards: “We are delighted to confirm that Oddworld Inhabitants and our friends at Frima are in possession of PS4 Pro hardware.”
Oddworld: Soulstorm will be a re-imagining of Abe’s Exoddus. The game’s creator Lorne Lanning laid out the plot: “having defeated Molluck the Glukkon, his former boss and RuptureFarms’ meanest inhabitant, Abe soon finds himself — along with 300 newly emancipated Mudokons — without food, water or a place to call home. Stranded alone in the desert, they find solace in a strange new brew — a delicious drink that has insidious ramifications for their newfound freedom.”
Lanning also stressed that the game will carry “a fresh narrative — a complete story retake inspired by our original tale.” Currently the game is due for release in late 2017, with platforms yet to be officially announced.
