Good news to anyone who backed the Oculus Rift Kickstarter for the development kit, Oculus will be giving the early adopters the launch headset for free.
The Oculus team announced the news as an update on Kickstarter, where they originally raised over 2.4 million dollars before raising funds elsewhere. Over 6500 people pledged enough to receive the first Rift development kit. Lucky’s Tale and EVE: Valkyrie will also be bundled with the launch version of the VR headset.
They have said that people will receive a survey through Kickstarter before the end of the month, which will need to be completed to be able to receive the complementary Oculus Rift. While backers in the 20 countries that the Oculus Rift is going to launch in will be fine, people in other countries may have to wait while Oculus work on another way to get the device to them.
Tomorrow anyone will be able to preorder the Rift headset through their website, although the cost is still unknown at the moment. The Touch controller was delayed on New Years Eve until the second half of 2016.
