We already know that Nioh is loosely based on the story of the English sailor, William Adams, who found himself in Japan during the Sengoku era and became the first foreign samurai. While the supernatural elements and large demons were mostly new inclusions to make the game, well, more video game-y, Nioh will also have us interact with some historical figures from Japan’s culture as well. Hattori Hanzo has already been revealed, and two more characters have been announced for the game.
The first is Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate during the 17th century. The second character is a young woman named Okatsu. She’s a ninja who works under Hattori Hanzo, and she has a profound dislike for the samurai of the Sengoku era. You can check out the screenshots and artwork of both characters down below.
Nioh is being developed by Team Ninja and will be published by Koei Tecmo. The game is set to be released exclusively on the PS4, though there is no firm release date just yet.
