While we won’t see the the Detective Pikachu movie for a while, which has a release date of May 10, 2019 and will inexplicably feature Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu, the Detective Pikachu game release date is much closer: next month (Mar. 23, to be exact).
Just last night, Nintendo dropped a new trailer for the Detective Pikachu game. It features two minutes of cute moments, story exposition, and Detective Pikachu’s warm baritone voice.

The story revolves around Tim’s quest to find out what happened to his father as he explores Ryme City with his pal Detective Pikachu. Along the way, they encounter varying shenanigans, solve puzzles, and generally get into and out of trouble. Everyone’s favorite genetically modified Psychic-type Pokemon, Mewtwo, is somehow involved, too.

Nintendo’s site for the game is live and features a release date, art gallery, and some info about the game. It seems that Nintendo and Game Freak are cognizant of youngsters playing the game, and are including an Easy Mode to help. We will also see a larger-than-normal Detective Pikachu Amiibo:
For those players who are new to sleuthing and may need some help in uncovering the evidence, Detective Pikachu features an Easy Mode, where Pikachu will provide handy hints on what to do or where to go next.
A cool Detective Pikachu amiibo is also planned for release at game launch. It’s larger than a regular amiibo, and it will allow players to view all the Pika Prompts from chapters they have completed, including ones they missed finding earlier.
Detective Pikachu was originally released in Japan in 2016, but this year’s release marks the first time it will be available in any region outside of Japan, where it will get European and Australasia releases in addition to its North America release.
Our favorite yellow detective will sleuth his way onto shelves this Mar. 23. It is available for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
