New Modern Warfare Playlist Update Disables Helicopters in Warzone

Call of Duty Warzone

Following some issues with Modern Warfare’s Warzone mode over the weekend, a playlist update has been made, which disables helicopters in the battle royale mode and adds a 24/7 Shipment mode to standard multiplayer.

The full changes are:

  • Replacing Plunder Trios with Blood Money Trios
  • Disabled helicopters in BR
  • Removing: GW Reinfected, Cranked 3v3 Gunfight, Ground War
  • Shoot the Ship becomes Shipment 24/7
  • Gun Game becomes Gun Game Reloaded
  • Adding Demolition
  • Adding Boots on the Ground War

The Modern Warfare base game changes are limited to the continued rotation of modes that is frequent in the game, but the Warzone changes are interesting.

Notably, disabling helicopters in the mode will affect many players’ tactics as they try to survive in Verdansk. However, there is a specific reason behind the change.

Over the weekend, there were examples of teams using helicopters to get underneath the Warzone map and winning by being unreachable. If the team stayed in the zone, they could shoot up though the floor at anyone who was above them.

The people on the surface couldn’t shoot back though, meaning the team under the map was invincible. Infinity Ward are disabling the vehicles while they work to fix that issue, at which point they will presumably add the vehicles back into the mode.

As a thank you/apology to players who suffered from issues over the weekend, Infinity Ward has added double XP, double Weapon XP, and double tier XP to the game, which lasts until Friday, May 8.

We will be sure to update you here once helicopters are back in the game. For now, the playlist update is live in Modern Warfare’s multiplayer and Warzone now.
