Battlefield V Gets a Comprehensive Trailer Breaking Down Every Mode

Today, EA and DICE released a new, comprehensive six-minute trailer for their upcoming WWII shooter Battlefield V. The trailer took time to spotlight every facet of the game, including multiplayer, the campaign, battle royale, and post-launch modes.

First up was multiplayer, which highlighted the eight modes coming on launch day. Classic fan-favorites like Team Deathmatch, Frontline, and Conquest all make a return, but the hot-ticket item in Battlefield V is the Grand Operation mode. This mode takes inspiration from historical battles and will span out across multiple maps, providing a more in-depth multiplayer experience.

The trailer then detailed Firestorm, Battlefield V’s battle royale mode. Firestorm will take 16 teams of four and have them duke it out on the largest map in Battlefield history. The vehicles and destructible structures that are mainstays of the Battlefield franchise will also be prominently featured in Firestorm.

After a brief retrospective, DICE gave updates on series mechanics. This section did focus on the minutia for a while but highlighted how slick the traversal and gunplay appeared. A new mechanic, which felt reminiscent of Fortnite, showed off players being able to build different types of fortifications, including sandbag walls and foxholes.

War Stories, the single-player mode that focuses on specific scenarios from World War II in a vignette style, similar to Battlefield One’s mode of the same name, makes a return. The different stories include a freedom fighter in Germany-occupied Norway and a British criminal fighting in North Africa. Two other stories will launch with the game, although EA has remained quiet on details of those scenarios. A fifth chapter, titled The Last Tiger, will arrive post-launch.

Closing out the trailer was a look at Battlefield V’s free post-launch content called Tides of War. EA plans to release historically themed content updates with daily and weekly challenges. The first update, The Fall of Europe, will have players progressing through Europe’s destruction over a few month period starting in Spring of 1940. Future updates will see the continuation of Europe’s story while also shifting focus to other theaters of war.

Battlefield V launches on November 20, 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
