Today Netflix announced that they will be adding a new perk to current subscribers: video games. Specifically, at least, in this case, mobile games are what are on the menu. The service will be branded as Netflix Games.

Starting right now, anyone that’s a Netflix subscriber and also an Android phone user can download/open up the Netflix app and dive into a new Games row that will include the following games: Stranger Things: 1984 (BonusXP), Stranger Things 3: The Game (BonusXP), Shooting Hoops (Frosty Pop), Card Blast (Amuzo & Rogue Games), and Teeter Up (Frosty Pop).

At the moment this perk seems only available to Android phone users and there’s no mention whatsoever of Apple devices in the announcement posted by Netflix today.

At worst, considering there’s no additional cost to subscribers, this is a pretty non-offensive but also non-earthshattering development. If you’re an Android user and Netflix subscriber that would enjoy having access to some mobile games, with the hint of more to come, then I’m happy for you.

Is this the start of an Xbox Game Pass-like offering, though? Netflix certainly has a long way to go to catch up to Microsoft or even Sony on that front if that’s their ambition. Right now it’s hard to tell if Netflix is just angling to offer a little bit of extra value to their subscribers or if they have bigger plans down the road.
