The stats were broadcasted by Analyst Mat Piscatella on his YouTube channel. You can watch the full video at the bottom of the post. Under the video you can also take a look at all the relevant ranking tables across all console platforms.

The best-selling game of the month is Mortal Kombat 11, that holds the top spot for the second month in a row. Sony’s Days Gone also holds fast in second place. Interestingly, Mortal Kombat 11 has overtaken Kingdom Hearts III as the best-selling game overall year-to-date. On the other hand, the best-selling game of the past twelve calendar months is still Red Dead Redemption II.

The Nintendo Switch is the best-selling console in the United States in the month of May, and the only one showing increasing sales year-on-year for both hardware and software.

Total War: Three Kingdoms also deserves a special mention, as it ranked third for the month of May. It’s the first time in recent memory that a PC game manages to rank within the top-three.

That being said, total sales of new released software in May were at their lowest point since May 1998.

Proud weeb hailing from sunny (not as much as people think) Italy and long-standing gamer since the age of Mattel Intellivision and Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Definitely a multi-platform gamer, he still holds the old dear PC nearest to his heart, while not disregarding any console on the market. RPGs (of any nationality), MMORPGs, and visual novels are his daily bread, but he enjoys almost every other genre, prominently racing simulators, action and sandbox games. He is also one of the few surviving fans on Earth of the flight simulator genre.
