Today, NetherRealm Studio live streamed a reveal event for Mortal Kombat 11 that was packed with new information. This live stream included tons of gameplay footage and trailers to get fans ready for the latest entry in the series.
One of the new videos released today was a Mortal Kombat 11 behind the scenes video that shows off some of the new features coming to the game. The video includes gameplay footage and members of the development team talking about their new game.
The video starts with a look at the technical advancements that are being brought to Mortal Kombat 11. Specifically, NetherRealm says that the animations, art, and fidelity are of a higher quality than any of their past games.
There is also a stated focus by the development team to freshen up the flow of combat. One of the ways they say they are accomplishing this is with the “Finishing Blow” feature. This move is similar to the X-Ray technique of past games but is used when a player’s health is low.
Next, the video provides a quick overview of the new game’s story. Mortal Kombat 11’s story focuses on the franchise’s first female boss character, Kronika. In the world of Mortal Kombat, Kronika is the “keeper of time and architect of destiny in the universe,” and her plan involves manipulating time which will allow young and old versions of Mortal Kombat characters to meet.
The video then goes on to explain the game’s customization system. Customization in Mortal Kombat 11 is said to offer “an almost infinite number of variations,” and will have players collecting gameplay altering augments that can be applied to gear.
Following this, there is a brief description of the game’s Towers of Time mode. The Towers of Time are challenge towers that will be updated at different intervals depending on their length.
Lastly, the video discusses the multiplayer mode’s goals for Mortal Kombat 11. The developers say that they want to improve the multiplayer by focusing on matching players with similarly skilled opponents and give them a feeling of improvement regardless of the result.
