The beautiful yet seemingly empty One Piece World Seeker finally received a new trailer that dropped a slew of details that will definitely excite One Piece fans. The new Gamescom trailer revealed just a tiny bit of information on World Seeker’s plot, but more importantly, it finally gave us a look at the Straw Hats and the assortment of antagonists Luffy will be facing on his monumental journey.
In terms of story, One Piece World Seeker seems to be set, at least in part, on the floating, impenetrable Prison Island. Presumably, World Seeker will begin much like One Piece’s Impel Down arc, which saw Luffy captured and shoved into the infamous prison that extends hundreds of miles under the sea. As opposed to being anywhere close to the ground, though, Prison Island is an entirely new location that’s far above the clouds, which was most likely built for trouble making pirates like Straw Hat Luffy during the story’s two-year time-skip .
The game’s trailer begins with prisoners in awe of this seemingly impossibly notorious pirate being led in handcuffs by marines. At this point, we realize that Luffy has been captured and sentenced to Prison Island. Most likely, the game begins with Luffy making his grand escape from this island, or the game may take place entirely in the air.
The true excitement begins once the Straw Hat crew make their appearances one by one. Possibly on a mission to break Luffy out of prison, each member seems to be on a mission, stealing keys and breaking into giant safes.
A handful of Luffy’s old enemies also make appearances in this trailer. The classic Smoker appears in a whirlwind, Rob Lucci now the head of the deadly and covert CP-0 reveals himself and even Sanji’s inhuman relatives of the Germa 66 make their imposing appearances. Iconic powers such as Akainu’s Magma-Magma attack and Kizaru’s Glint-Glint beams look just as breath-taking and destructive as they do in the anime.
World Seeker’s gameplay also seems very reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. As opposed to relying on button mashing and one’s strength to advance the story and defeat powerful bosses, it looks as though players will have to use certain tactics and the open world environment to their advantages in order to take down huge foes.
One Piece World Seeker will make its 2018 release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
