Ever since Monster Hunter World became available for pre-order via Tencent’s game platform WeGame, it’s been massively popular. Tencent announced recently that it has reached over one million pre-orders in the span of just two weeks, which is absolutely crazy. Of course, the fact that the pre-orders via WeGame don’t cost anything probably counts for a lot, since you don’t have anything to lose when you’re placing it.
Pre-order costs are taken when the game debuts officially, so offering up free guaranteed slots is an easy way to guarantee a ton of folks jumping in on the offer. Of course, this is also the first time a Monster Hunter title has been released on PC in Simplified Chinese, so that could explain a glut of the players jumping on the bandwagon.
Monster Hunter is a massively popular series, especially in China, despite the fact that it hasn’t had as many translations as it should have in the country. It remains to be seen, of course, if the pre-order numbers will end up equating to sales, since players haven’t been charged just yet on the platform. We’ll see when the PC version releases August 9, 2018. It’s currently up for grabs now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so if you’re curious about it and elsewhere in the world, you can go ahead and get started now.
