Minecraft Cross-Play Coming to Consoles, PC, VR, and Mobile

Soon, you'll be able to play Minecraft with several friends across different platforms.

At Microsoft’s E3 press conference, Mojang revealed that console, mobile, VR, and Windows 10 PC versions of Minecraft will be unified with upcoming cross-play support for select platforms.

This means that the community will be brought together to allows players across different platforms to play together. In the trailer, a Minecraft version of a Nintendo Switch, an iPad, and an Xbox One S were shown, representing the platforms you can cross play on. No PlayStation platforms appeared, but it isn’t clear whether they do not feature or whether Xbox simply didn’t want to show them. Either one could be the case at this juncture.

Massive servers will be introduced and player-made content will be integrated for everyone to experience. Community-run servers will also be allowed across the platforms. You can see much of this stuffed into the colorful new trailer below.

In addition, Mojang revealed that Minecraft will be playable in 4k on Xbox One X with the game’s “super duper graphics pack.” If you’re looking to take the plunge when the Xbox One X comes available on November 7, you’ll be treated to Minecraft like you’ve never seen it before — even if it’s still just a bunch of blocks.
