Marvel Games Says “Who Knows What The Future Holds” About More Marvel vs. Capcom

Does anyone not want more Marvel vs. Capcom?

Marvel vs. Capcom 3

It’s been quite a few years since we’ve gotten a new Marvel vs. Capcom game, with the last release in the series being Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in 2011. The game featured some fan favorite characters from both companies, and the Ultimate version added on even more like Phoenix Wright and Hawkeye. Marvel vs. Capcom still remains one of the most popular Marvel video game series around, with the first title X-Men vs. Street Fighter hitting arcades in 1996.

Capcom’s license with Marvel expired in 2013, causing them to not be able to update games and even having some DLC content for MvC3 pulled from online stores. This left the game with some terrible balancing issues, although its still loved by fans and continues to be played in tournament circles like EVO.

Polygon recently spoke to Marvel Games Vice President Jay Ong about the future of the series and the possibility of another game. Ong didn’t have a lot to tell the site, but his response did leave at least some hope for MvC fans,

“Let’s just say that we hear that a lot. We love our fans and we certainly want to please them. Beyond that we can’t say anything at this time. But who knows what the future holds?”

Ong continued on to say that Marvel Games still has a lot of unannounced projects including some in the console space, in addition to what we already know about. Last week at E3, Marvel announced a brand new Spider-Man game for the PlayStation 4 developed by Insomniac Games, the studio best known for the Ratchet & Clank series. Insomniac’s new game doesn’t have a title or release window as of yet.
