Square Enix announced today via press release that Kingdom Hearts III shipped over five million copies.

The achievement was achieved by counting physical copies shipped to retailers summed to full-game digital downloads sold on the PlayStation and Xbox Stores.

The game was released on Jan. 25 in Japan and on Jan. 29 worldwide. This, combined with the shipment numbers, makes Kingdom Hearts III the fastest-selling game of the series.

Just a few days ago the analysis by Japanese firm Media Create mentioned that Square Enix was successful in holding onto the fans of the series despite the long absence of a mainline Kingdom Hearts game.
