A few oldies but goodies are on their way to a PS4 near you. Announced by Sony, Jak II, Jak 3, and Jak X: Combat Racing will be re-released on Dec. 6.
These three classics will be joining Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, the first game in the franchise and one that is already available for download via the PlayStation Store. Now gamers will be able to purchase all four installments separately or as part of a bundle.
Jak II was released in 2003 and revolutionized the game players had already come to enjoy by giving Jak his own voice after the original let Daxter do all the talking. This was a trait Jak has kept ever since and was something that allowed Naughty Dog to take the franchises’ narrative to the next level. As the games progressed, the story in each got better, edgier, and more interesting with the depth added by this creative choice.
The narrative tropes Naughty Dog explored in Jak and Daxter laid the foundation for the evolution of their highly innovative story telling. It put them on the path that led to the creation of future blockbuster franchises like Uncharted and The Last of Us— and to think it all started with giving Jak his own voice.
So now is a perfect time for fans that played the originals, and for new gamers who never touched a Jak and Daxter game to explore one (or three) of Naughty Dog’s older titles.
And in addition to releasing these 3 games, Sony is also showing off a new theme for PlayStation users the pays tribute to the PS2. The Legacy Dashboard Theme will be available on Dec. 6 as well and will cost $2.99.
