A few days ago, John Romero and Adrian Carmack revealed a new first-person shooter titled Blackroom. After four days on Kickstarter, the campaign has been canceled while the studio builds a playable demo.
The Blackroom Kickstarter was off to a fast start, gaining $131,052 with over 30 days left in its campaign. Now the campaign is closed, with plans to restart at a later date.
We’re pressing “PAUSE” on the fundraising campaign for BLACKROOM to complete this gameplay demo. Simply put, this will take more time than the Kickstarter has left, so we’ve decided to suspend the campaign and launch a new one when the gameplay demo is ready.
The original Blackroom campaign had a teaser video with some concept art and renderings, but no playable prototype. According to Kickstarter rules, physical products like games must feature working demos.
This campaign is officially canceled, so anyone who donated will get to keep their money. Night Work Games plans to honor backer achievements for the next campaign and give a bonus to those who supported the canceled Kickstarter and the future one.
