Today Legendary Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima took to Twitter to thank all who were involved in the development of Death Stranding.

His gratitude involves even those who worked on the game outside the studio like the cast, musician, the outsourcing staff, and even the fans.

He also mentioned that since Death Stranding is labeled “A Hideo Kojima Game” fans can expect his taste and quality that they experienced in the previous games by Kojima-san.

This comes after Kojima-san tweeted another series of Tweets the English translation of which was hastily interpreted by some as claiming exclusive credit for himself for the creation of his games.

Many protested this statement on social media, disregarding the fact that  Kojima-san isn’t a native English speaker, and that his usual tweets indicate that he has not fully mastered the language yet.

On top of that, even fairly accurate translations from Japanese (this also includes professional ones, let alone this kind of translation likely done on the fly without thinking on it too much) often sound a lot more clear-cut than the original intent.

Kojima-san’s original tweet in Japanese simply (and rather clearly, for those who understand the language) meant to explain that the “A Hideo Kojima Game” label indicates his involvement in the creation of the game from start to finish, including most aspects of development, also mentioning that such label cant be applied to titles he has just done some work on (for instance the concept or production work) without actually being fully involved from the beginning to the end.

Nowhere the original tweet indicates or even implies that Kojima’s involvement in any aspect of production is exclusive, or disregards the contribution of the developers working with him.

It’s always important to remember that a translation (even if done by the same person) between two very different languages is very rarely fully indicative of the original intent. That’s the whole reason why the expression “lost in translation” exists.

Death Stranding will release exclusively for PS4 on November 8, 2019.
