Hideo Kojima is one of the most famous game developers of all time, and he’s got a huge project in the works with Death Stranding. The developer recently took to Twitter to state that he’d been watching Westworld, HBO’s new sci-fi show. Kojima pointed out something that Anthony Hopkins’ character Dr. Robert Ford said, and how it was a direct theory of his own game design. You can see the tweets down below.
Watched "Westworld" E2. What Anthony Hopkins said in that story was an exact theory of my game design. pic.twitter.com/KbJaXQ5N8b

It’s interesting to think about this quote from the perspective of the work Kojima has done. After all, the Metal Gear Solid series is one packed with intricate details, social statements, layered themes, and even commentary on video games themselves. From what we’ve seen and heard about Death Stranding, his new project looks to contain similar elements.
Westworld is about a technologically advanced Western-themed amusement park of the same name, where the residents are synthetic androids known as “hosts.” The park caters to high-paying visitors called “newcomers” who have the ability to do whatever they wish within the park, and not fear retaliation from the hosts. The show’s creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have even cited video games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, and Red Dead Redemption as direct inspirations.
