Developer Ninja Theory released a poetic accolades trailer for its recently released third-person action game Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice today, choosing to focus on player experiences with the title as opposed to the press quotes and scores that the industry is very used to seeing after any major game release.
Despite being praised by many critics for its presentation and themes, Hellblade’s newest trailer features quotes that were sent to the developer from players themselves. Ninja Theory claims to have received “hundreds” of messages like the ones it highlights in the video. The fan quotes are accompanied by in-game shots of the title taken by way of Hellblade’s photo mode.
Ninja Theory also announced today that it will be donating all of the money made by the game tomorrow in celebration of World Mental Health Day. All proceeds will go to the charity Rethink Mental Illness, an organization dedicated to changing ideas surrounding mental health as well as helping those afflicted with mental health disorders.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is currently available for PlayStation 4 as a console exclusive and for PC via Steam. Twinfinite praised the game for its excellent story, great characterization, and believable representation of psychosis in its review but cited its limited combat, slow gameplay, and forgettable puzzle mechanics to be its major drawbacks.
The aforementioned new trailer for the game can be found below. It goes without saying that it is quite touching and strikes a very emotional tone. Here’s hoping we’ll be hearing more about the series in the near future.
