Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft has now got over 50 million registered players, according to Blizzard. If that’s not impressive enough, then also know that the game has attracted over 10 million new players since November of last year. That’s a 10 million boost in players within five months.
The news was revealed in a press release for Hearthstone’s new expansion, Whispers of the Old Gods, which released this week and adds 134 new cards.
“Whispers of the Old Gods adds an exciting new set of creepy, corrupted cards to Hearthstone,” Blizzard cofounder and CEO Mike Morhaime said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see how creative players are with the ancient evil of the Old Gods in their hands.”
Hearthstone has clearly been a massive hit for Blizzard, but it’s not yet clear exactly how much money the game has made. The game itself is free-to-play but it does feature microtransactions which will no doubt be bringing in a fair amount.
