Niantic, the developer of the insanely popular Pokemon Go, are great at acquiring the rights to some of the most popular IP’s in entertainment for their mobile augmented reality games. Their upcoming game, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, will let players experience what it is like to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. When the game was announced a month ago, little was made known about it beyond the fact that it exists.

Thanks to comicbook.com, we have a summary of a recent interview that Financial Times did with Niantic CEO John Hanke. In this interview, he revealed more information about the upcoming title, most important of which is a release window: the second half of 2018.

On top of this, Hanke assured that the release of the game will not be met with the same server issues that infamously plagued the launch of their first mobile AR game, Pokemon Go. He notes that the company is “much better positioned” for the release of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and that they have learned a lot from the launch of Pokemon Go. Hanke explains that “in terms of dealing with public locations, government policy, regulations and public reaction to people being out in the real world, we have built up our expertise there.”

Hanke also commented on the potential of the marriage of AR technology and the Harry Potter franchise in Wizards Unite: “The ‘muggle’ world and the wizarding world are only separated by this thin veil… It’s very easy for us to imagine bringing that kind of magic into our everyday lives.”

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be available on iOS and Android.
