The Force, so far, isn’t with this new Star Wars title. Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will no longer be heading the stand alone, Han Solo film.
It was announced with statements from both Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilms, and the ex-directors themselves that their creative visions were no longer in line with one another. Here is what Kennedy had to say:
“Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon.”
However, it isn’t all doom and gloom for Star Wars fans. If you are looking forward to the return of everyone’s favorite space scoundrel, the untitled Han Solo movie is still set to release in May of 2018. And although a new director may be on the way, or a couple to match the might of Lord and Miller, so far the cast of characters stands as is. Alden Ehrenreich will be keeping his role as the lead character, Han Solo, with Donald Glover as loveable Lando Calrissian. Other greats such as Woody Harrelson (Zombieland, The Hunger Games) and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) will also stand beside the stars of the film, so even if the directorial change has you concerned, at least we can rely on some impressive actors and actresses to carry the project through.
