IDW adds another well-known franchise to its ever growing list of comic books. Today it was announced that Gears of War will be one of the next series the publishing company will be working on. This news is coming out the same day as SEGA’s announcement of IDW picking up their Sonic The Hedgehog comic book series. Seems to be a good day for comic book fans everywhere.
This isn’t the first time that Gears of War has been printed in comic form. However, it’s been about five years since the last Gears of War issue was released, the original series ending in 2012. But fans of the video game and once ex-comic books will be getting brand new stories based on the Microsoft giant.
Kurtis Wiebe will be the author working on the latest line of comics and had a lot of positive things to say about the new partnership.
“I’m thrilled to be part of this new adaptation with IDW. With the release of Gears of War 4, fans experienced all the classic callbacks to the brutal, over-the-top action and tone they were used to but there was a new dynamic created with the younger generation of heroes in JD, Kait, and Del. That’s the same experience I want for the comic readers.”
There isn’t an exact date for the release of the Gears of War comics, but fans can expect to pick up a copy or read the first issue in January 2018. Also, if you haven’t read the original Gears of War comics, IDW will be re-releasing the original series as well.
