Epic Games’ latest title, Fortnite, continues to enjoy huge success with its Battle Royale mode. The developer has tweeted today that the game saw 525,000 concurrent users and 3.7 million daily active users last Sunday, Oct .8.
Although Fortnite’s standard PvE mode was reasonably well received, the addition of Battle Royale has seen a huge spike in interest, especially following the popularity of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). Unlike PUBG, though, Fortnite is free-to-play and available on PS4 and Xbox One, as well as PC, which has given console owners hungry for a similar experience a similar game to play. Yet Fortnite Battle Royale is far more than a copycat, adding its own spin to the Battle Royale formula with base-building mechanics from the main game. Still in Early Access, it is being constantly patched and updated, with supply drops and a duos mode added last week.
However, Fortnite Battle Royale still has some way to go to match PUBG-levels of interest. Steam showed today that peak concurrent users numbered nearly two million, the highest of any Steam game ever.
Fortnite Battle Royale is a one hundred player, last man standing multiplayer game in which players parachute from a “Battle Bus” and fight for survival in an island setting. The mode incorporates the base-building system from the main game, allowing players to construct defenses and traverse to different areas of the map. Twinfinite has written a strategy guide with helpful tips for new players, as well as a description of the best areas to find chests.
