Fortnite’s 3.5 Update Adds Replay System, New Questline, and More

Fortnite, slurp juice

The 3.5 patch for both of Fortnite’s modes, Battle Royale and Save the World, goes live later today, but developer Epic Games has released the patch notes for the update ahead of time.

The biggest surprise in the update is the addition of a replay system for Battle Royale. Players can now save matches and play them back through several different camera views, speed options, and cinematic filters. The feature is currently only available for PC and console.

The Port-a-Fort item, a grenade that creates an instant fort announced earlier this week, has also been added. The community has been weary at the prospect of an item that could trivialize a major aspect of the game, though the new item is of Epic rarity and builds the same three story structure with a 1×1 bottom every time.

The patch brings plenty of bug fixes and improvements, such as the floating weapon issue caused by switching items too quickly since the 3.4 update and reduced load times.

“We’ve made some data layout optimizations in order to improve load times and performance,” the studio wrote in the patch notes. “Load times reduced by 25-30 seconds as a result of these changes on Xbox One and around 10 seconds on PS4. On both platforms, we expect to see fewer issues with geometry or cosmetics failing to load in time, and FPS drops during skydiving. The Xbox One download will be larger than normal in this release as a result of these optimizations.”

The 50V50 limited-time mode returns with some changes. Each team has their own bus on opposite sides of the map, and there is now a dotted “battle line” on the map which lets players know how likely they can run into the enemy. According to the studio, the mode will not be live alongside the update, but “available soon.”

Fortnite’s Save the World cooperative mode receives a new questline called Into the Storm: Opening Act. The questline adds a new map and event Llama containing Cyberpunk Heroes and neon weapon set. Check out the patch notes for the full list of features, fixes and adjustments.
