Fortnite 17.21 Update Adds Event Countdown Timer & Plasma Cannon Mythic Weapon

The Fortnite 17.21 update has begun rolling out across all platforms this morning, and it appears to be a fairly small update, adding an event countdown timer and the Plasma Cannon mythic weapon to the Battle Royale title.

The news comes via a combination of dataminers over on Twitter. Popular Fortnite leaker, iFireMonkey shared the stats of the Plasma Cannon mythic weapon first. The weapon launches a slow moving energy ball that zaps nearby objects and destroys any buildings in its path. It deals 33 damage to players, and has a magazine size of just one shot. Its fire rate is also 1.

Elsewhere in the Fortnite 17.21 update, a new event countdown timer has been added to the lobby, as well as at the very center of the map itself. According to the countdown timer, we’ve got around 10 days until the event rolls around.

Outside of that, there doesn’t appear to be any other major, current changes coming in the Fortnite 17.21 update. However, iFireMonkey has also revealed that the large mothership floating over the map may begin to abduct chunks of named locations such as Coral Castle on the map.

This will fragment the location, causing only fragments of it to remain, as shown in the tweet below.

According to HYPEX, Slurpy Swamp, Coral Castle and Corny Complex are the current named locations we can expect to get abducted and broken up into chunks at this moment in time.

Whether or not more will be added to this as we get closer to the event remains to be seen.

The Fortnite 17.21 update should be available to download on all platforms now. Downtime for the update may still be ongoing, however, so you may have to wait before you can jump back into the Battle Royale action.

Fortnite’s week 8 challenges go live later this week, and we’ll have a complete breakdown of them very soon, so be sure to check back with Twinfinite.
