It's been a long time coming. Nearly there.

Final Fantasy XV, Story, Details, JRPG

Final Fantasy XV has had one of the longest development cycles of all time, as it will have been over ten years since its announcement once the game releases. Square Enix gave eager fans a wealth of new information at their Uncovered event on March 30, including an official release date.

In an new interview with Famitsu magazine, director Hajime Tabata shared a few details on the game’s release. The interview was pointed out by Hachima, and the translation by siliconera.

In the interview Tabata talks about how the development of the game was extended because of Square Enix wanting a simultaneous global release. The team wasn’t able to compress the development time with the time it took for localization.

Tabata wasn’t the game’s director until late 2013, and Famitsu asked him why the release date was set as September 30, 2016.

“I wasn’t the director at first, but when I was formally entrusted with the duty (in December 2013), ‘September 30, 2016 is when we’ll release it,’ was the first thing that was decided.”

From there the team set to work on making sure that they hit that release date. Tabata also added that the release date wasn’t something randomly decided, but a date set after evaluating the time and cost for the amount of resources the team had.

Famitsu also reported that the English lip-sync for the upcoming CG movie Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, is nearly complete. The English version of the film features a different voice cast than the game for the characters it features.

Final Fantasy XV is set to release on September 30, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you missed any of the announcements from the recent Uncovered event, you can catch up on everything here.
