In an interview featured in the newest issue of Game Informer magazine, director Hajime Tabata commented on the emotional impact he hopes to achieve with the ending of Final Fantasy XV. The story comes courtesy of Nova Crystallis. He feels that fans who invest so much time in a game deserve a meaningful and impactful ending.

“I want to create a very emotional ending to the game and want to make as many people cry as possible. You’re spending so many hours playing the game, so when I finish a game and it ends on a sour note and it doesn’t move me, it gets me disappointed. At least make me cry or give me some emotion! I want to give a moving ending for the consumers who invest so much time.”

Tabata also touches on his hope that Final Fantasy XV will impact the community similarly to the way that Final Fantasy VII did. He talked to the magazine about the bar that VII set,

“There are some team members that were here for VII. They’re taking on the challenge of trying to exceed that title once more, which is a great motivator for them. FFVII sets a very high goal for us, but it serves as a good goal. It brought in new audiences, sales, and more.”

Final Fantasy XV is currently in development on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. An event held in Los Angeles on March 30, will unveil the official release date for the game. A new trailer shown at the end of January, also gave us a look at stealth and magic in the game.

What do you think about the story approach that Final Fantasy XV is taking? Are you still excited for the game, or has it spent too long in development for you to build excitement right now? Let us know what you think in the comments.
