Last week at E3, Hiroaki Kato and Takashi Katano, the lead developers on the project, spoke with GameSpot about the possibility of using the Gambit system in a different game besides an entry in the Final Fantasy franchise.

For those who may not know, the Gambit system allows players to program in specific functions for characters. However, the developers revealed the only game they were considering to remaster was Final Fantasy XII. Katano also said, through a translator, “If anything, they were maybe considering using the Gambit system and taking that and developing a completely new game out of that, but that’s still something they are thinking about.”

The developers were also asked whether they might return to the XII series, and Katano once again spoke up and said, “Based on whatever kind of feedback we might get from that, that’s something we’d consider.”

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will see a worldwide release in 2017. Check out what changes and improvements The Zodiac Age will bring, as well as our preview of the game from this year’s E3.
