Square Enix has provided Twinfinite with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for PS5, and specifically the Episode InterMISSION focusing on Yuffie and her new partner Sonon.
Ever since the first cutscene we can take a look at Yuffie’s personality that really shines through in her entrance. The new visuals certainly help convey a range of emotions that definitely fit the returning heroine from Wutai.
Of course, Yuffie is much more than just looks, and together with Sonon can really do a number on any enemy. She’s good at both melee and ranged combat with her oversized shuriken that can be used as a close-range weapon with the square button. Repeated button presses continue the combo while putting some distance between Yuffie and her enemies.
With triangle you can throw the shuriken at an enemy. It’ll take a little while for it to return unless you press the button again (which makes it return faster). In the meanwhile, you can hurl ranged elemental Ninjutsu-attacks with square.
Her ability Banishment lets you increase damage dealt with ATB spent on other commands, while Windstorm creates a gust of wind that damage everyone around Yuffie and pulls them in for a further beating.
While you can’t control Sonon in battle, you can press L2 to trigger his synergy with Yuffie when they both have ATB available, creating special team attack that can easily stagger enemies.
Of course, they both have limit breaks. Yuffie’s Bloodbath is chain of powerful blows that can deal devastating damage, while Sonon’s is called Dance of the Dragon.
We also get to see Ramuh in action with his ability Voltaic Lance and his iconic ultimate attack Judgement Bolt. The Lord of Levin hasn’t lost his touch.
Of course, Episode INTERMission features more content than just story and combat in the form of minigames. Fort Condor is all the rage in the undercity of Sector 7, but there’s even more to explore and enjoy.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will release on PS5 on June 10, 2021. No PS4 version appears to be planned for Yuffie’s episode at the moment. You can also check out another batch of screenshots, a second, a third, the latest trailer, and another promotion video.
Incidentally, Tetsuya Nomura himself recently confirmed that no more DLC are planned for the first part of the remake, as Square Enix is now prioritizing the completion of the second part.
